Cansancio y libertad

Camilo Peñalver

A tragicomedy about what it means to be young amid the scarcity of underdevelopment.

Cansancio y libertad is a tragicomedy about what it means to be young amid the scarcity of underdevelopment. Through its events, the book explores conformism, happiness, love, the middle class, decision-making and uncertainty. It is set in 2021 in a fictional city on Colombia's Caribbean coast called San Valo, used as a lens to examine the particularities of present-day urban life.

The story follows Carlos, a 21-year-old pelao driven by his circumstances, who feels he has never been happy nor fit in with others, and who is tired of living days with no purpose or inspiration. The fear that haunts him is ending up repeating what he calls the cycle of coastal life — never gaining his freedom, just one more weak man exposed to the randomness of existence.
